Class Description: Geriatric Education for Emergency Medical Services Advanced Course (AGEMS), builds on the GEMS core course, providing more complex, realistic scenarios and the use of technology EMS practitioners are likely to encounter when assessing, treating, and transporting older adults.

The AGEMS course is an innovative, comprehensive, and highly interactive 1-day course for both BLS and ALS providers with:

Case-based lectures
Live action video
Hands-on skill stations
Small group scenarios

Prepares EMS practitioners for the array of medical, mobility, psychosocial, and communication issues found in older patients.

Topics covered include:
Transporting patient on home ventilators
LVAD (left ventricular assist devices)
PICC lines/invasive lines
Tracheostomies
Feeding tubes

Students are guided thorough increasingly complex scenarios and situations throughout the course.
